Along with this, the northern platform of Porcupine Lookout offers views of the Kelvin Hills and Kelvin State Forest, where the famous 'Nobby's Rock' stands out in the afternoon sun. Moreover, the southern part of the lookout offers a stunning view of the Breeza and Pullaming Plains. In times of floods, the region transforms into a vast inland sea that lasts for several days at a time.

The name Porcupine Lookout dates back to the early days. According to the Aboriginals of the Kamilaroi Tribe, the hill was known as 'Bindea,' meaning 'the place where shrubs with leaves like a porcupine quill grow.' So, the name 'Porcupine Lookout' is a tribute to the land's pre-colonial heritage.

The best way to reach this picturesque spot is via Apex Road, which is just two kilometers from the Gunnedah town centre.
