Description
Port Noarlunga Jetty is a wooden fishing pier that extends from the beach to a long reef offering snorkeling and diving.
The jetty is located in Port Noarlunga, a picturesque seaside village located approximately 30 kilometers south of Adelaide. The current jetty was constructed in 1921 and is the second jetty to have been constructed at Port Noarlunga. The original jetty, which was 30 meters south of the current jetty, was constructed in 1855 but was destroyed in several severe storms in the early 1900s.
The jetty is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. It is a great place to spend a few hours fishing, snorkeling, or diving. The off-shore Port Noarlunga Reef and aquatic reserve forms part of the Encounter Marine Park, which is a divers and snorkelers paradise and also viewable from the end of the jetty. The reef is home to more than 200 species of marine plants, which the fish love too and can be further discovered by the self-guided Aquatic Trail for divers. The beach is large and very long, with red sandstone cliffs, and is perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The jetty and reef make it one of the iconic diving destinations in the state.
The jetty is also a great place to take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful views of the ocean. There are no facilities or amenities on the jetty itself, but there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. The jetty is easily accessible, with proximity to the city and easy jetty access.
