Purangi Winery - A Taste of Tradition in Cooks Beach, Whitianga Established in 1985, Purangi Winery is the 37th winery in New Zealand, located in Cooks Beach, Whitianga.

The winery was founded by the Evans family, who immigrated from Hong Kong and were welcomed by the district as settlers in 1966.

The winery offers tastings of their quality wines, which are made onsite, along with an outdoor pizza oven, and expansive gardens. Camping at Purangi Winery

Purangi Winery offers free camping on their property, providing visitors spend $40 per couple at the winery on either food or alcohol. The camping area is a simple field with a portable toilet. The winery's clever approach to making money while offering a unique experience has proved to be a hit with visitors.

The winery is open daily from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. While there is no specific time of year when the winery is busiest, visitors may wish to avoid the high season (December to February) if they prefer a quieter tasting experience.

Purangi Winery is easily accessible by car or public transport. Visitors can take the ferry from Whitianga to Cooks Beach, which operates throughout the day. Alternatively, visitors can drive to the winery and park in the provided parking lot. The winery is located just a short drive from Hahei and only a 15-minute drive from Whitianga.
