Description

Quaranup-Point Possession Trail is a 6 km hiking trail in Albany, perfect for a day hike.

The trail starts from the old Quarantine Station at Quaranup and leads to Point Possession, where George Vancouver claimed the whole of Western Australia for Great Britain. It is an easy hike suitable for all ages and fitness levels, offering striking views of King George Sound, the shipping channel, Princess Royal Harbour, and Albany Port. At Point Possession, visitors can admire the stunning views while learning about its historical significance. The area is notable for being the spot where George Vancouver claimed the whole of Western Australia for Great Britain, which led to the eventual founding of Albany. The trail is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the warmer months from November to April. To get there, visitors can take the Albany Highway for approximately 7 km, then turn right onto North Road. Drive along North Road for around 3.5 km and turn left onto Marine Drive. After another km, turn right onto Point Possession Road, where you will find a car park and the starting point for the hike. The Quaranup-Point Possession Trail is a beautiful and historical hiking trail that offers visitors a healthy and enjoyable way to experience the rugged coast of Albany.
