Description

Rocklands Reservoir is a versatile water reservoir located in the Wimmera region of Victoria, Australia. It is the largest reservoir within the Grampians-Wimmera-Mallee Water (GWMWater) supply system and was constructed in 1938 and completed in 1953.

Originally built to provide water to the Wimmera-Mallee Domestic and Stock channel system, it now serves various other purposes, with all entitlement holders, including the environment, able to receive water from the reservoir.

The main wall of Rocklands Dam is a 270 meters long cement gravity dam with two adjacent embankment sections. It has a catchment area of 1,355 square kilometers and can hold back 261,510 megalitres of water at 100% operating capacity. The reservoir itself can contain up to 348,300 megalitres of water and has a surface area of 67.5 square kilometers. The spillway at Rocklands Dam has a discharge capacity of 763 cubic meters per second.

Rocklands Reservoir is a popular destination for recreational activities. Duck hunting is allowed during the season from March to June. Fishing is another popular activity, with various fish species such as Murray cod, redfin, trout, and carp being caught throughout the year. In the past, Rocklands was known for its excellent carp fishing, with carp weighing over 10 kg commonly caught.

Visit Rocklands Reservoir to enjoy the wide range of recreational opportunities it offers.
