Description
Rodd Island is a picturesque island located on the Parramatta River in Sydney, Australia.
It sits in the centre of Iron Cove and is surrounded by several suburbs. The island has a rich history, starting with the Rodd family who used it for recreation. Although they failed to purchase the island, it eventually became part of the first public recreation reserve in Sydney Harbour. From 1888 to 1894, the Pasteur Institute used the island as a laboratory for scientific experimentation. During World War II, the island served as a training base for the US Army. Today, it is part of the Sydney Harbour National Park and offers a peaceful retreat for visitors. The island features a 19th-century dance hall, two summer houses, and a gazebo, as well as Dr Adrien Loir's restored house which provides insight into the research conducted on the island over 100 years ago. Don't miss the chance to experience the rich history and beautiful scenery of Rodd Island.
