Description
Named after an abandoned 1850s stone hut that had been used by shepherds in a former era, this family winery maintains a no-compromise approach to making its premium quality range.
When pathologist Dr Michael Wishart purchased the property in 1996, the onsite hut was in a state of drastic disrepair. It has since been restored to its former glory, its stunning honey-coloured Mount Barker stone making a striking proposition. Now operated by son, Philip, his wife, Cathy, and their daughter, Laura and located in the heart of the Porongurup range, the winery follows a 'quality over quantity' philosophy from the grape-growing process, to bottling, to marketing.
Varieties include Shiraz, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
