Description
Simone Young presents three masterpieces that defined their eras and looked forward to the next.
Groundbreaking masterworks
Mozart's 41st and final symphony is one of the most enduring of his works. A striking and electrifying symphony, it was nicknamed 'Jupiter' by a music publisher who said its opening chords recalled the king of the gods and his thunderbolts. Here Mozart paints on a broader canvas than ever before, perfecting the Classical style.
Johann Sebastian Bach's extraordinary Brandenburg Concertos continue to stand out. Concerto No.3 is a beautiful demonstration of this, demanding brilliance from the string players of the Orchestra in a rare, intimate moment of chamber music in the Concert Hall.
Bach's son, Carl Philipp Emanuel, was a great composer in his own right. His Flute Concerto in G is a thrilling ride, and in the hands of our Principal Flute Joshua Batty we hear all of CPE's invention and daring.
