Description
Standley Chasm Angkerle Atwatye is a renowned geological formation located in the West MacDonnell Ranges National Park of Central Australia.
It is owned by the Iwupataka Land Trust and operated by the Angkerle Aboriginal Corporation, owned by local community members who are direct descendants of the Arrernte Aboriginal people. This area has significant cultural value in addition to its geological importance.
Accessing the Chasm is easy, with a well-maintained trail that visitors can walk along to explore the dramatic 80-meter sheer rock face. The trail starts near the Reception Area and takes around 15 minutes to complete. The trail follows the natural creek bed, providing seating and interpretive signs for assistance. It also offers opportunities for bird-watching and wildlife photography.
Standley Chasm Angkerle Atwatye offers various cultural and outdoor experiences. Visitors can learn about the cultural heritage of the Arrernte people through cross-cultural presentations, art workshops, bush tucker tours, and language classes.
