The cafe and bar is located next to the entrance of The Civic, which is one of the most renowned and historical buildings in Auckland's arts area. The cafe and bar is named after Freda Beatrice Stark, who used to work for the Colonial Ammunition Factory during World War II during the day and then danced at the cabaret and nightclub at The Civic's Wintergarden during the night.
