Description
Stawell Gold Mine is the largest gold mining operation in Victoria, and its reputation for being the hottest mine in Australia is well-known.
Established in the eighties by its current owners, Crocodile Mining, the mine has a viewing area along Reefs Road that visitors can explore to observe the large mining machinery and listen to the mining history in Stawell since the 1870s. The area also features a heavy bar that represents the weight of a real gold ingot bar, similar to those poured at the mine in the foundry. If a request is reasonable, the mine may offer observation tours to some areas of the mine.
