Description

Strand Park, located in the heart of North Ward suburb of Townsville, is a recreational park that offers a range of activities.

It provides spectacular views of Magnetic Island, Cape Cleveland, and the Port of Townsville.

The park has an interesting history tied with the City of Townsville. It originally had a Public Outdoor Swimming Baths constructed between 1886-1889, later named "City Baths". Newer baths, called the "Tobruk Memorial Baths," were constructed between 1941 and 1950, named after the Australian service personnel who participated in the Siege of Tobruk.

Strand Park features several recreational facilities. The ANZAC Memorial Park, originally known as Strand Park, was renamed in 1934 in memory of Alderman J.H. Tyack. It includes the Telecasters North Queensland Building, previously known as the Queens Hotel. The Tobruk Memorial Baths, designed and built by the Townsville City Council, honor the Australian servicemen who participated in the Siege of Tobruk. Other facilities include the Oceanway pavement, Rockpool, barbecue areas, Surf Lifesaving Club, Strand Park, Waterpark, and Ocean Siren - a water sculpture by Jason deCaires Taylor.

The park has become a popular venue for events and festivities. The Strand Ephemera bi-annual event showcases art installations by local and regional artists along the foreshore. The park also hosts events such as Nightmarkets, Christmas events, Carols by Candlelight, Stable on the Strand, and a New Year's Eve fireworks display.

Visitors should be aware of jellyfish stings and take necessary precautions. Additionally, there have been incidents of violence in the area, so visitors are advised
