The Blowhole

The Blowhole, located off the eastern side of Lady Elliot Island, is a must-visit dive site for adventure seekers.

This L-shaped cave is large enough to drive a bus through, allowing for easy access for divers. Descend into the heart of the cave, starting at 14 meters, and explore the dark, eight-meter deep hole. Inside the cave, you'll encounter shimmering schools of baitfish and glassfish, as well as squirrelfish, crayfish, shrimps, and wobbegongs. At the mouth of the cave, around 20 meters away, you can spot batfish, trevally, sweetlips, and coral trout. Outside the cave, you can dive into the breathtaking coral wall that is home to reef sharks, turtles, and the occasional manta ray. The best time to visit The Blowhole is from August to December, when the weather is favorable and visibility for diving is at its peak. To get to Lady Elliot Island, you can take a plane from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, or Hervey Bay. Regular flights are available, and there is a range of accommodation options on the island.
