Description
The Gisborne City Vintage Railway (GCVR) is a railway preservation group based in Gisborne, New Zealand. The group was founded in 1985 and operates on part of the northern section of the mothballed Palmerston North–Gisborne Line. After signing a lease with KiwiRail, Gisborne City Vintage Railway now operates its steam locomotive WA 165 on public excursion trains from Gisborne south to Muriwai, a distance of about 17 kilometres (11 mi).
The journey encompasses some unique features such as crossing the main Gisborne airport runway, making it the only train in the world to cross the main runway of a fully operational airport. GCVR operates the only Wa class steam engine in the world
