Description
This multi award-winning documentary from Olivia Kuan tells the story of the Houston Herricanes and the first women’s full tackle American football league in the seventies.
Inspired by the stories Kuan heard from her mother, who played in the Herricanes, this documentary explores the women who wanted to play a sport traditionally deemed to be a man’s game, the struggles they underwent, the games they played, and the life long bonds of friendship these sportswomen made.
Mixing archive footage and contemporary interviews with the players, the film gives a voice to the women who played and celebrates their legacy.
“With a great mix of timely conversations, archival game footage, and feel-good nostalgia, The Herricanes is not only an unknown story that deserves to be told, but it’s a truly outstanding documentary.” – Louisa Moore, Screenzealots.com
“The Herricanes is a love letter to football and the badass women who played it.” – Kyle Foley, Butwhytho.net
