Description
The Horn, located on the Mount Buffalo plateau in Victoria, Australia, is the tallest peak with an elevation of 1,723 metres (5,653 ft) AHD.
It is surrounded by the Victorian Alps and offers unique granite boulders and rock formations, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. A walking trail leads visitors to the top, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
In addition to its scenic beauty, The Horn holds a significant place in the history of the Aboriginal people. It was a gathering place for the Aborigines, who climbed Mount Buffalo during the summer to feast on the protein-rich Bogong Moth and hold ceremonies. The mountain's name, The Horn, was given by the explorers Hume and Hovell during their expedition in 1824, noting its resemblance to a buffalo. Visitors to The Horn can therefore not only enjoy its natural beauty but also explore its rich cultural history.
