Description

The Kudelka Shop is owned by Jon and Margaret Kudelka. They live in Hobart and can usually be found working in the studio section of the shop.

Jon is a cartoonist. He has won two Walkley awards and been the Museum Of Australian Democracy’s Cartoonist of the Year twice.

He began drawing cartoons at The Hobart Mercury in 1993 after completing a biochemistry degree (in hindsight the biochemistry might have been a waste of time and he still has nightmares about phosphofructokinase). He drew cartoons for The Australian for 20 years and now works for The Saturday Paper and The Hobart Mercury (still!) His artwork includes printmaking, pyrography, drawing and painting. He has written a number of books as well. A recent visitor to the gallery said "it's all a bit mad but in a good way" which was nice.

Margaret is a mosaic artist. She was born in Paris and grew up in Fiji, Algeria and Australia. Her love of pattern and mosaic originates from her years in North Africa as a child and witnessing the beauty of Roman and Berber design and decor. She studied at the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy.
