The Pines Dive Site

Tourist attractions

Moreton Island QLD 4025, Moreton Island, QLD 4025

Description

The Pines Dive Site, located on the inner side of Moreton Island off Brisbane, offers a unique and interesting dive experience.

Unlike the typical coral reef dives in the area, this dive site is a coffee rock reef made up of dirt boulders. Despite its appearance, The Pines is a great spot for underwater exploration, with ledges and caves that provide a habitat for a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to see turtles, stingrays, batfish, wobbegongs, moray eels, pineapplefish, leaf scorpionfish, nudibranchs, octopus, cuttlefish, and pipefish. The site ranges in depth from three to 30 meters and is suitable for both beginners and experienced divers.

For optimal visibility, it is recommended to visit The Pines Dive Site during the winter months. Although accessible year-round, diving during the neap tide, when the currents are minimal, allows for clearer visibility. To get to the dive site, take a ferry from the Port of Brisbane to Moreton Island. Ferries run multiple times a day, and the journey takes approximately 75 minutes. Once on the island, you can access the dive site by boat, either by hiring or joining a dive charter.

If you're a diver seeking something different in Brisbane, The Pines Dive Site is worth considering. Its unique dirt boulder reef structure and abundance of marine life make it a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced diver, this dive site is a must-visit for anyone who loves the ocean and its fascinating inhabitants.
