Description

The Tasmanian Arboretum is a botanical tree park located near Devonport, Tasmania, Australia.

It serves as a botanical institution for education, research, and the enjoyment of nature. The arboretum initially covered 47 hectares of farmland and remnant forest, but has since expanded. In 1996, additional land was donated to protect the landscape values of the site. In 2009, more land was purchased, bringing the total area to 66 hectares. The park consists of a variety of features, including a section of the Don River, limestone formations, old quarries, and associated tramway and railway formations.

Currently, the arboretum boasts over 4900 plants in its collections, which primarily consist of temperate plants from around the world. These collections include the Tasmanian woody flora, Southern Hemisphere conifers, the Genus Eucryphia, and the cool temperate Nothofagus. The park is also home to approximately 80 species of birds, including the swift parrot and the grey goshawk. Visitors can observe Platypus on Founders' Lake, and Tasmanian nativehens and other birds are easily spotted throughout the park.

The Tasmanian Arboretum Inc. is governed by an elected committee and relies on volunteers for maintenance. Funding for developments comes from various donors, and the park receives an annual grant from the Devonport City Council. Visitors can enjoy the park's picnic area, which includes shelters with barbecues. The park's Facebook
