Description
Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve is a 380-hectare reserve located 19 kilometers north of Brisbane CBD, between Pine River and Bald Hills Creek.
This beautiful reserve is part of a network of coastal wetlands on the edge of Moreton Bay and boasts a diverse range of ecosystems, including tidal flats, mangroves, salt-marshes, melaleuca wetlands, grasslands, and open forest. Thanks to the reserve's lush biodiversity, visitors can get up close to indigenous birds, fish, and mollusks, including dozens of species of migratory shorebirds that call the Moreton Bay Marine Park home. During the summer months, migratory shorebirds roost and feed on the mudflats, making it an ideal time for bird watching. Visitors should check a tide chart before visiting to ensure they do not disturb the shorebirds. The best way to explore the reserve is by hiking or canoeing. The Bird Hide and Island Circuit trails are popular hikes for travelers looking to venture into the wetlands on foot, while the Eagle and Island canoe trails offer a scenic option for those who wish to paddle through open waters. Visitors can also find fishing, walking tracks, and protected bird habitats to explore. The best time to visit Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve is during the summer months when migratory shorebirds roost and feed on the mudflats. To get to the reserve, visitors can take a train to Bald Hills Station and then catch a bus to the wetlands. Alternatively, visitors can drive to the wetlands and park in the designated parking areas. Insect repellent is a must, as the wetlands are home to a diverse range of wildlife, including insects.
