Description

Welcome to Trephina Gorge Nature Park.

Located in the locality of Hart in the East MacDonnell Ranges, just 85 kilometres (53 mi) east of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia, Trephina Gorge is a natural wonder that will awe-inspire you.

The park owes its name to Trephina Creek, which is believed to honour Tryphina Benstead (née Rains), wife of William (Bill) Benstead. Until August 1965, the gorge was entirely located within The Garden pastoral lease. As of August 12, 1965, part of the gorge was excised from the pastoral lease and designated as the Trephina Gorge Scenic Reserve. The land underwent a name change in 1978 and became known as the Trephina Gorge Nature Park. Most recently, on September 17th, 2008, the land title was granted to the Atnerrperrke Aboriginal Land Trust, to be held in trust for the traditional owners. As such, the land was leased to the Northern Territory government for a period of 99 years to continue its use as the Trephina Gorge Nature Park.

Trephina Gorge Nature Park is a place you must visit to appreciate the natural wonders of the East MacDonnell Ranges. The park spans 22,000ha and offers an array of activities for locals and tourists alike. From hiking and bird watching to camping and exploring ancient Aboriginal art, the park has something for everyone.

With its rich history, stunning landscape, and a multitude of activities, Trephina Gorge Nature Park is a must-see destination in Australia. We welcome you to come and explore the park,
