Description

Tukino Alpine Sports Club is a club-operated ski field located on the eastern slopes of Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand's North Island.

The ski field is open to the public, and visitors are welcome to ski, board, or play around in the snow. The Tukino Mountain Village provides comfortable on-mountain accommodation in three modern ski lodges adjacent to the ski field, where visitors can ski right to their door. The three lodges are Aorangi Ski Club, Desert Alpine Club, and Tukino Alpine Sports Club.

Tukino Alpine Sports Club (TASC) is one of the three lodges at Tukino Ski Field, situated at 1700m on the eastern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Being on the eastern side of Mt Ruapehu, Tukino enjoys relatively calm conditions, sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, and warm sunshine right from the early part of the day. TASC is an excellent base for snow sports, alpine tramping, photography, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain biking on the access road, or simply relaxing. Casual visitors and groups are welcome. The club is affiliated with the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC), and NZAC members stay at members' rates and receive member rates on the ski field. Visitors can join up for discounted rates on skiing and accommodation. The club also offers membership, which supports the club and provides discounted accommodation and ski passes, plus two free summer nights.

The Tukino Alpine Sports Club is a modern ski lodge located on the Tukino Ski Field, offering an excellent base for winter mountaineering, ski touring and instruction courses, and a base for alpine rock climbing in the warmer summer months. The club was formed to expand the usage of the lodge, and it has worked to reduce the lodge's footprint and impact on the park. To get to Tukino Ski Field, take the turnoff to Tukino Skifield 22.4kms north of Wairoru (46.4 kms south of Turangi). Follow the gravel road across the desert for 7km to the “Base Camp” car park. Children under 5 are free.
