Description

Located alongside the picturesque Turon River in central New South Wales, Australia, Turon National Park is a nature-lover's paradise that is definitely worth a visit. Established in 2002, the park was proposed for protection in 1983 and is only 150 km (93 mi) northwest of Sydney, approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) west of Capertee, near Lithgow, New South Wales.

The park is spread over a large tract of land that was once an active gold mining area during the 1851 gold rush, and remnants of this era are still evident. Buzzing with an abundance of flora and fauna, the park is a perfect place for adventure seekers and wildlife enthusiasts. Sheoak grows along the river, and the slopes are covered in a variety of gums, making it a stunning visual treat for visitors.

Turon National Park features a diverse variety of wildlife, including a large number of native birds, and red wallabies that spend their day sunbathing on the sandstone tops and descend into the valley at dusk. Due to its location within the Great Dividing Range, the park is relatively at a high altitude (valley floor at around 750 m [2,460 ft] above sea level, the tops at around 850 m [2,790 ft]), which makes it an excellent spot for watching the sunrise or sunset. Visitors who wish to spend the night can make use of the two campsites identified on Wikimapia.

The park offers a unique opportunity to observe many interesting animals up and close, such
