Description

Located 32 kilometres south-west of the Wudinna Township, Ucontitchie Hill is a dome-shaped granite formation that rises sharply from the surrounding plains.

It is internationally renowned for its display of geological features and is a geographical monument of international significance. Ucontitchie Hill is a scenic geological monument that can be seen from several kilometres around, standing in isolation. Around the base of the hill, visitors can see unique wave structures that indicate previous levels of long since eroded soils, as well as fascinating boulders of granite that have been internally eroded into features known as Tafoni.

The best times to visit Ucontitchie Hill are in the cooler months, from April to September, when temperatures are milder. Summer temperatures can be scorching, and heatstroke is a concern, especially for visitors who are unaccustomed to the Australian climate.

To get to Ucontitchie Hill, follow the Eyre Highway (A1) and turn onto Flinders Highway (B56) towards Wudinna. After reaching Wudinna, drive 30 kilometres south-west, and you will reach Ucontitchie Hill. There is ample parking located at the site.

Entry to Ucontitchie Hill is by gold coin donation, which is placed in an honesty box at the base of the hill. The site is open year-round during daylight hours.

If you're visiting Wudinna, be sure to take the time to visit Ucontitchie Hill. With its magnificent geological features, unique wave structures, and Tafoni, it's a site you won't want to miss.
