Description

Venman Bushland National Park is a beautiful piece of preserved history located just 22 km southeast of Brisbane.

Originally purchased by Jack Venman in 1954, the land had been heavily logged in the past. Instead of pursuing his cattle farming business, Venman decided to leave the land in its natural state.

Venman became a conservationist in the late 1960s when surveyors wanted to develop the land. He refused their offers and dedicated himself to preserving the area as bushland. He even constructed walking tracks, set up barbecues, and built wooden chairs and tables for visitors to enjoy. In the 1970s, Venman deeded the land to Shire of Albert for $1, with the condition that he could continue living on the property.

Today, Venman Bushland National Park is a popular destination for tourists and locals. Spanning over 255 acres, the park offers lush forests, wildlife, and breathtaking scenic views. Visitors can explore the walking trails, relax in the picnic areas, or engage in activities like hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching.

Reaching the park is convenient, as it is located near Brisbane and the nearest town is Capalaba. Visitors can use public transportation, drive, or hire vehicles to get there. The park has no admission fee and is open from dawn to dusk, making it an ideal place to spend a day or two. Visitors are advised to bring essentials like water and snacks, although there are toilet facilities and other amenities available.

Venman Bushland National Park provides an oasis amidst Queensland's bustling city, offering a unique opportunity to connect with nature and history.
