Description

Waite Conservation Reserve, SA: A Nature Lover's Paradise For nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, Waite Conservation Reserve is a must-visit destination in South Australia.

The reserve is dedicated to conservation and furthering scientific knowledge and is the largest surviving example of Grey Box Grassy Woodland in the Adelaide Hills area. It is home to hundreds of native plant species as well as kangaroos, koalas, and echidnas. To preserve the natural environment, dogs are not permitted in the reserve.

One of the best things to see and do at the Waite Conservation Reserve is hiking the Waite Conservation Reserve Loop Walking Trail. This sign-posted trail takes visitors on a 9.5 km loop through the reserve, climbing into the foothills for magnificent views over the Adelaide Plains to the sea. The trail includes some of the Yurrebilla Trail and highlights the reserve's features and habitats, especially in grassy woodlands. Visitors can also enjoy the view of Adelaide city and beaches from the top of the mountain and swing on the tree that has three swings attached to it.

The best time to visit the Waite Conservation Reserve is during the spring and autumn months when the weather is mild and pleasant. While the reserve is open all year round, the summer months can get hot and the trails can be dry and dusty.

Getting to the Waite Conservation Reserve is easy. Visitors can drive from Adelaide, which takes about an hour or less. The reserve has two starting points, one at the eastern end of Hartley Grove, Urrbrae, and the other near the large tanks on Hillside Rd, Springfield, close to Elmglade Road.
