Description

Wellington Zoo is a hillside conservation paradise located at 200 Daniell Street, Wellington Central, New Zealand.

It is nestled in the city's green town belt and is home to more than 500 native and exotic endangered animals. The zoo is New Zealand's first zoo, and Wellington's oldest conservation organization, caring for animals since 1906.

Wellington Zoo offers a variety of activities and attractions for visitors of all ages. Visitors can check out the daily talks and animal feedings, and get up close to red pandas, capybaras, meerkats, giraffes, and their sun bear. The zoo also has a range of interactive experiences, including close encounters with animals, behind-the-scenes tours, and animal-themed sleepovers.

The zoo is open every day from 9:30 am to 5 pm. The admission fee for adults is $12.00, and children under three years of age can enter for free. Students, community services cardholders, seniors, and YHA members can avail of discounted rates upon presenting their ID. Wellington Zoo is committed to the welfare of animals and wildlife both within the zoo and around the world. As well as caring for their animals, Wellington Zoo participates in breeding programs both locally and internationally, and contributes to conservation and research programs both within the zoo, around the country and even overseas. The Nest – Te Kohanga is Wellington Zoo's latest major addition, with facilities and equipment to treat every animal resident of the zoo, except the giraffes, and is also used to treat rescued native wildlife.

Wellington Zoo is a charitable trust and a member of Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia (ZAA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). It is also the world's first carboNZero certified zoo, which means that it has measured its carbon footprint and is taking steps to reduce it. Wellington Zoo is a must-visit destination for animal lovers and conservation enthusiasts. With its commitment to animal welfare, conservation, and research, visitors can learn about the importance of protecting endangered species and the environment.
