Late winter and spring are the best times to visit Willis Picnic Area, as this is when the resident wattle trees are in bloom. Being the lowest altitude picnic area in the Kosciuszko National Park, it tends to be cooler compared to other sites. Checking the weather forecast and being prepared for sudden temperature changes is recommended.
Getting to Willis Picnic Area is convenient, as it is easily accessible by car, 4WD, or motorbike via Barry Way. This road remains open throughout the year, with the exception of weather conditions. The picnic area is approximately an hour's drive from Jindabyne or Bombala, and about 2 hours from Canberra. It is advisable to have personal transportation, as there is no public transport available to Willis Picnic Area.
