Description

Wiradjuri Reserve is a picturesque location situated along the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, just a few minutes away from the center of Wagga Wagga.

It offers excellent opportunities for fishing and relaxation, as well as holding historical significance as the site of the shanty town known as Tintown in the 1930s.

The concrete boat ramp at Wiradjuri Reserve is perfect for launching your boat and fishing in the river, which is home to a variety of fish including Murray Cod, Golden Perch, and Catfish. The reserve is also traversed by the Wiradjuri Walking Track, which provides scenic views of the river and surrounding vegetation. It is suitable for people of all ages and is a popular spot for picnicking and family outings.

Wiradjuri Reserve has historical significance as it was the site of the shanty town known as Tintown during the Great Depression. Occupied by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families who were dependent on government rations, Tintown continued to be inhabited until the 1950s. The camp represents the struggles faced by people during this difficult period.

The reserve is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the warmer months when the weather is ideal for fishing, picnicking, and enjoying the Wiradjuri Walking Track. Access to Wiradjuri Reserve is easy, as it is located at the end of Wiradjuri Crescent and is only a short distance from the city center, making it accessible by car or public transport.
