Description
Wollundry Lagoon, located in the center of Wagga Wagga, is a beautiful spot to unwind and appreciate native vegetation.
It meanders through the Victory Memorial Gardens and Civic Centre precinct. The lagoon holds great cultural significance for Aboriginal people, with aesthetic, social, historical, and spiritual values. It is associated with the Dreaming story of the Wawi, a reptile-like spirit that guarded the lagoon. The lagoon's surrounding sandhills provided camping opportunities for Aboriginal groups, and significant gatherings and cultural activities took place there. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lagoon, capturing stunning views and taking photographs. The Wollundry Lagoon Walking Track offers an excellent view of the surroundings. The best time to visit is during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons when the garden is in full bloom. The lagoon is easily accessible by car, bus, or taxi, with parking lots available in the Civic Centre precinct.
