Description

Wonga Wetlands Albury is a nature-based sanctuary located on the Murray River floodplain.

With an area of 80 hectares, it offers a diverse ecosystem of lagoons and billabongs, home to various wildlife and century-old river red gums.

Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, especially during winter when the wetlands are full, attracting pelicans and swans. In spring, the water recedes, and muddy shorelines become a haven for wading birds. Summer brings decreased water levels, and autumn floods revive the ecosystem.

The wetlands also provide an educational experience, showcasing the restoration process from grazing land to its current state using environmentally treated wastewater. Visitors can also learn about the Indigenous history through the scar tree.

Wonga Wetlands Albury is open year-round, offering unique natural beauty in each season.

To access the wetlands, visitors can take the Riverina Highway or Hume Freeway, following signs towards the Albury Waste Management Centre. From there, it is a short distance to the car park and entrance newline.
