Description
Wooroolin Wetland, located in the township of Wooroolin, is a fauna sanctuary that attracts naturalists and visitors due to its palustrine wetland, bird hide, and walking trails.
Bird lovers will enjoy the opportunity to observe over 25 different bird species, including nankeen kestrels, striated pardalotes, and golden-headed cisticola. The walking trails, accessible during dry periods, can be found at Wooroolin Sports Ground.
Conservation efforts at Wooroolin Wetland include fencing off over two kilometers of endangered vegetation to protect local and regional species. A revegetation project is also underway in the eucalypt woodland, with a focus on the endangered Queensland Blue Gum. Nesting boxes have been provided for sugar gliders and possums.
The wetland can be visited year-round, but it is recommended to visit during dry periods for a better experience. To get to Wooroolin Wetland, visitors can take the Bunya Highway north from Kingaroy for 16 kilometers and look for signs directing them to the sports ground.
Interpretive signage has been erected at the site to provide information about project achievements, local wildlife, and tracks. For naturalists seeking a unique experience in the heart of the wetlands, Wooroolin Wetland is a must-visit destination.
