Yuraygir National Park

Yuraygir National Park is the largest coastal park in New South Wales, Australia, covering 65 km (40 mi) of coastline.

It was established in 1980 through the amalgamation of two national parks, Angourie and Red Rock National Parks. The park is named after the local indigenous tribe, and it is located 482 km (300 mi) northeast of Sydney.

The Yuraygir coastal walk is a four-day journey that spans the entire coastline of the park. It offers the opportunity to visit 48 beaches, including the renowned Shelley Beach, which stretches for 800 meters (2,600 ft).

The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife species, with 30 mammal species identified, such as the rufous bettong, tiger quoll, brush-tailed phascogale, and squirrel glider. Threatened species like the eastern ground parrot and eastern grass owl also inhabit the park's swamps and wet heath.

Conservation efforts in the park focus on controlling pests and weeds, including feral pigs, cats, dogs, horses, and foxes, as well as managing invasive plant species like the groundsel bush, bitou bush, lantana, and slash pine.

The establishment of Yuraygir National Park was a complex process that spanned over two decades, involving the acquisition and unification of various parcels of land.
