Adelaide Hills Aboriginal art

The Adelaide Hills region in South Australia is known for its Aboriginal art galleries, which showcase the rich culture and talent of indigenous artists. Two notable galleries in the area are Desert Art Gallery and APY Gallery.

Desert Art Gallery, located in Adelaide, represents indigenous artists from the central and western desert regions of Central Australia. They ethically source Aboriginal artworks directly from the artists, ensuring authenticity and supporting local communities.

APY Gallery is an Indigenous-owned collective of art centers that exhibits contemporary Aboriginal art from regional South Australia and Adelaide. Established over 70 years ago in the Pukatja (Ernabella) Community, the gallery has expanded to showcase works from various South Australian art centers in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and online. They offer a wide range of Aboriginal art and operate with an 80/20 commission split, ensuring that 80% of the sale price is returned to artists and their art centers.

These galleries offer travelers a unique opportunity to appreciate and purchase authentic Aboriginal art while supporting local Indigenous communities. Visiting these galleries is a must for anyone interested in experiencing the rich cultural heritage of South Australia's Aboriginal people.
