Renmark historical houses

Renmark, South Australia, boasts several historic houses offering a glimpse into the past. Two notable historical houses include Olivewood Historic Homestead and Museum and Wilkadene Cottage.

Olivewood, a State Heritage-listed home, was built in 1889 from Murray pine logs using the drop slot system. It was the original residence of Charles Chaffey, a Canadian who, along with his brothers, established the Renmark and Mildura Irrigation Colonies. The homestead showcases period items in traditional settings and features a palm-lined drive. The Charles Chaffey Centre, an addition, displays working printing machines, photographic equipment, and a 1926 Garford fire engine.

Wilkadene Cottage, located in the riverside gardens of the historic 'Wilkadene' homestead, is a 3-bedroom self-contained cottage that accommodates up to 6 guests. The homestead itself exemplifies historic architecture in the Renmark area. These houses offer a captivating glimpse into the history of Renmark and the surrounding region, making them essential attractions for those intrigued by the area's past.
