The Shoalhaven Region in New South Wales is home to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, which showcases the history of naval aviation from its beginnings to the present day. The current exhibition, "Wings over Water," tells the story of naval aviation in Australia through a variety of aircraft from the 20th century, including a World War One Sopwith Pup and an A4 Skyhawk jet fighter. The exhibition also features examples of allied and foreign aircraft, such as the MiG-17 fighter. The museum's collection of aircraft and memorabilia has grown exponentially since its establishment in 1974, thanks to the dedication of volunteers.
Visitors can explore individual displays, such as the US 135th Assault Helicopter that incorporated the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam. The museum also offers a flight simulator experience for all ages, providing a virtual taste of what it's like in the pilot's seat. For those interested in becoming part of the museum team, there are opportunities to assist with aircraft and display maintenance, administration tasks, and archives. To reach the Fleet Air Arm Museum, take the Princes Highway and follow the signs at the intersection with Kalandar Street, which runs south-west from Nowra.
