Maribyrnong, Victoria, is home to Melbourne's Living Museum of the West, an ecomuseum and community social history museum established in 1984. The museum is situated in a park and historic industrial site on the banks of the Maribyrnong River, focusing on the unique heritage, culture, and environment of Melbourne's Western Region. It offers activities such as talks, tours, changing exhibitions, publications, audio-visuals, and Aboriginal cultural programs. Some of the unique exhibits include rope samples from Kinnears Rope Works, a typical garment of munitions workers, signs and hand tools from boat builder John Jones, and cordite drying trucks used in ammunition propellant manufacture.
While not directly in Maribyrnong, the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne is also worth visiting. Recognized by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the building has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and features various exhibitions and events, including fashion, art, and war stories.
