Melbourne railway museums

Melbourne City, Victoria, is home to the Newport Railway Museum, a beloved destination for railway enthusiasts. Located on Champion Road, Newport, near the North Williamstown station, the museum was established on November 10, 1962. It showcases the largest collection of Victorian Railways steam locomotives, along with a wide range of other Victorian Railways rolling stock and numerous Victorian Railways artifacts. Some highlights of the museum's collection include seventeen steam locomotives, eight diesel locomotives, two electric locomotives, four electric suburban carriages, and five country/interstate passenger carriages.

The museum is open from 12 pm to 5 pm every Saturday and on Sundays during school holidays. Visitors can explore various railway experiences in the area, such as the iconic Puffing Billy Steam Railway winding through the fern gullies of the Dandenong Ranges, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway traveling through the Stringers Creek Gorge, and the Yarra Valley Railway offering a stunning mountain journey. Additionally, the Mornington and Bellarine railways provide coastal rides, while the Daylesford Spa Country Railway and the Red Cliffs Historical Steam Railway offer immersive experiences for railway enthusiasts.
