The silo art galleries in the Kimba region of South Australia are a unique and fascinating attraction for travelers. The Viterra silos at Kimba, located on the Eyre Peninsula, showcase stunning murals painted by Melbourne artist Cam Scale. The artwork, completed in September 2018, stretches over 60 meters wide and 25 meters high, depicting a young girl standing in a wheat field overlooking a magnificent purple sunset viewed through endless wheat fields.
The Kimba silos were built in 1964 and consist of 12 cells with a capacity of 23,800 tonnes. The community-driven project to create the silo art was funded by various organizations, including Country Arts SA, Grants SA, Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, Eyre Peninsula Community Foundation, and the District Council of Kimba, as well as business sponsorship and community donations.
The silo art in Kimba is part of South Australia's Silo Art Trail, which features numerous painted silos and water towers across the state. These impressive works of art not only showcase the talent of the artists but also contribute to the beautification and growth of regional areas, attracting tourists and boosting local economies.
