Melbourne CBD trams

Melbourne's tram network is a convenient and popular mode of public transport in the city's central business district (CBD) and surrounding areas. The network consists of 24 routes, serving 1,763 tram stops, with 493 trams operating across 250 kilometers of double tram track. The trams share road space on most Melbourne thoroughfares and are operated by Yarra Trams. To travel on a tram, you can board at signposted stops, which display maps, route numbers, and timetables. Melbourne is the only city in Australia with a network of trams, making it a unique and charming way to explore the city.

One of the most notable trams in Melbourne's CBD is the City Circle Tram, which offers free travel to city sights and attractions with audio commentary on points of interest along the route. The City Circle Tram runs along Flinders Street, Harbour Esplanade, Docklands Drive, La Trobe Street, and Spring Street, completing a full circle in around an hour. Trams run in both directions every 12 minutes from 10 am to 6 pm on Sundays to Wednesdays, and 10 am to 9 pm on Thursdays to Saturdays, excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday.

Traveling on trams in Melbourne's city center is free, thanks to the Free Tram Zone. Tram stops within the Free Tram Zone are clearly marked, and if you start or finish a journey outside the zone, a valid myki card is still required.
