Local fitness guru and Perth Community Connector for Lululemon Athletica Dustin Allen (Dusty) reveals some of his current fitness hangs.

AirSpace (Leederville)

This studio has the most amazing aerial yoga classes! AirSpace has world-class instructors like Trevor Aung Than and Ash Lau, who both have experience performing with Cirque du Soleil. I learn something new in every session, especially in the Handstands 101 classes. They recently opened another studio in Whitford, just showing the popularity of this studio! Visit airyogaperth.com.au.

The Yoga Vine (Perth CBD)

Donna Buchanan and Kate Taylor opened this yoga studio last year on St Georges Terrace. It's tucked away, giving it the convenience of the CBD combined with an amazing calming ambience. I love their lunchtime express classes to break up a busy workday, as well as, stretching myself out in one of their yin classes. Visit theyogavine.com.au.

Grandstand CrossFit (East Perth)

A new CrossFit box that recently opened in East Perth. Co-owners and coaches Justin Samulski and Matt Evans make you feel like you are part of the tribe from the moment you walk in the door; even a novice crossfitter like myself. Also, Grandstand CrossFit have arguably the cutest mascot of all time, a little French bulldog called Fritzel Von Snatch who occasionally stops by to check your form. Visit grandstandcrossfit.com.au.

Hurt Locker (Claremont)

Names can be deceiving, as I always leave this place feeling great! Hurt Locker is a fantastic little boxing gym located just off Stirling Highway in Claremont. You can alternate between their two rooms, where the coaches either put you through your paces on a variety of punching bags or get you in the ring to practise your sparring. At the moment, I love training with Daylan Waetford as he's working on getting my footwork up to speed. Visit hurtlocker.com.au.

Anarchy Training Centre (West Perth)

Every time I go to this place, it is absolutely packed with people, and vibrating with energy. At Anarchy Training Centre owners Glen Austin and Renae Wauhop offer group or one-on-one boxing sessions. My personal favourite is a group boxing session on the pads with Renae (who plays great tunes, too!) followed by a SAP (Strength, Agility, Power) class. Visit anarchytrainingcentre.com.au.

WHY NOT...try Pranayama and Meditation?

Is life a bit of a whirlwind lately? A weekly combined Pranayama and Meditation class could be one way to combat everyday stress (and also deepen your yoga experience, if you're already a yoga practitioner).

Affectionately known as the Yogahub yoga geek, Russell Eade – who also happens to be a geophysicist – teaches the class every Sunday morning. Pranayama, which focuses on controlling the breath, aims to improve the strength of the diaphragm, lung capacity, and overall respiration. Prana is the concept of the life force, hence the name. The meditation aspect of the class helps practitioners deal with a world where the mind is often exhausted by an endless rush of thoughts, worries, and plans. Minds need a break too, and meditation is a way to help achieve a resting mental state.
