Perth is home to some of the finest French restaurants in Australia, serving much loved favourites escargot, steak tartare, mushroom and feta cigar, Paris-Brest (pictured above) and the classic crème brûlée for dessert.

Whether you’re interested in lunch or dinner, dressing up or down, we explored the city’s top French-inspired hotspots for you to sip, snack and sample. Here are five of the best from a selection of more than 30 French restaurants in Perth. Bon appétit.

1. French Accent

Mount Lawley

Expect the unexpected. French Accent is the restaurant to come to when you’re in a theatrical mood or have a date to impress. Having trained at the Eiffel tower, Chef Antoine carefully crafts each course with an interactive element. Prepare to pop aromatic bubbles or paint like Picasso with artistic displays of food while you cosy up under candles. The Cruffger (a croissant crossed with a burger) is a popular choice, how’s that for French with a twist!

Opening hours: Wednesday – Sunday 6:30pm-10pm

642 Beaufort St, Mount Lawley WA 6050

2. Vincent Wine

Northbridge

Vincent Wine is a take on Caves à Manger, a popular way of dining in Paris where wine bars double-up as wine shops. A trendy spot with exposed brick and a subway-style tiled menu that changes with the seasons. Diners are given the option of an express lunch, or to sit back and savour French onion soup and classic crème brûlée under olive trees in the mediterranean-style courtyard. Renowned for its wine list with over 200 bottles to choose from and bistro-style snacks and charcuterie to accompany each sip, it’s ideal for a late lunch or romantic date night.

Opening Hours: Wednesday – Thursday 4pm – late, Friday – Sunday 12pm – late

465 William Street, Perth WA 6000

3. Angel’s House

Fremantle

Set in a beautifully historic 1880s building, Angel’s House is an authentic French bistro with prestigious French wines and home recipes written on blackboards and the crème de la crème of French dining in Perth. Founded by two French brothers Anthony and Jeremy who wanted to bring the south of France to Perths’ doorstep, diners are given the option to feast on French favourites chicken vol-au-vent, escargot, traditional cassoulet and oven-baked camembert in the classy courtyard, or for avid people watchers, out the front. It is the perfect place for group bookings, with a set menu offered to seven people or more. With locally grown seasonal produce and a menu to match, it doesn’t get much fresher.

Opening Hours: Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 5pm – 10pm, Sunday 12pm – 2:30pm & 5pm – 10pm

24 Essex St, Fremantle WA 6160

4. Bistro Guillaume

Burswood

On any measure, Bistro Guillaume is one of the finest and mostly highly awarded restaurants in Perth. Having trained in Michelin star restaurants, founder and head chef Guillaume Brahimi has captured the very best of his own Paris experiences to deliver a sophisticated dining experience with a tasteful interior of green and gold décor and a balcony with chequered black tiling overlooking the pool. Yes, it is pricier, but for the glitz and the glamour and a sommelier personally pairing your food and wine, you can’t complain. Not to mention the Parisian Gnocchi and strawberry souffle with Chantilly cream. Oh là là.

Opening Hours: Saturday 12pm – 3pm (Lunch), Tuesday – Saturday 5:30pm – 10pm (Dinner)

Crown Metropol Perth, Great Eastern Highway, Burswood, WA 6100

5. Le Rebelle

Mount Lawley

Inspired by the streets of New York, with a touch of je ne sais quoi, Le Rebelle is a modern French-ish (as owners Sarah and Liam Atkinson like to call it) three-tiered bistro in Mt Lawley. Think, French with flair, a mushroom and feta cigar with French onion dip and steak tartare, with cognac, horseradish and frites. With over 100 wines to choose from and a fromage menu, I’ll say no more. Spend the night in a sexy sombre setting with moody lighting, comfortable seating and a satisfied stomach. A relaxed and easy way of dining, the night doesn’t have to end there, with Bar Rogue only minutes away.

Opening Hours: Wednesday & Thursday 5pm – 10pm, Friday & Saturday 12pm – 10pm

676 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley WA 6050
