This southwest college provides world-class education facilities in elegant, durable and timeless buildings.

Parry & Rosenthal Architects were engaged by the Department of Finance, Building Management & Works in September 2011 for the master planning, design, documentation and total procurement of Dalyellup College Stage 2.

The southwest portion of the site was developed in 2009 as a middle school, with 600 students from years 5 to 10. Facilities consisted of three main buildings around a central courtyard, car parking, hard courts, cricket pitches, storage sheds, an oval and covered area. The stage 2 works include two new double-storey learning centres with a learning link, a single-storey Design and Technology facility, new tennis courts, a hockey pitch and more parking.

The reception area has been enlarged and modified, and some teaching areas in the original middle school have been modified. The new buildings provide state-of-the-art facilities in the use of technology, science, computing and design and technology, with the overall layout and classroom providing more flexible learning and teaching spaces for up to 1200 year 7 to 12 students.

The new buildings have been designed to be in keeping with the ongoing development of the site. Existing courtyards have been added to and linked, while current pathways have been extended. The use of both polished conventional concrete block combined with aluminium-framed glazing create a clarity of architectural language and a durable and timeless expression.

Internal spaces are designed for specialist uses with an emphasis on openness, natural light and ventilation, universal access, excellent acoustics and legibility. Teaching spaces are provided with views out to the natural environment and are linked with wide learning corridors vertically connected by open, glazed stairways.

Careful attention to the landscape design provides an interface between the buildings and the outdoor learning areas, providing for passive and active recreation. Artworks by Anne Neil are integrated into the new buildings and courtyards, providing shade and a unique point of interest.
