Description

I am constantly entertained by what I seem to discover in pieces of raw timber being natural shapes that become animals or timber grain (patterns) that are simply exquisite in raw form.

These works bring a lot of joy when you deliver the creation that starts with a sketch and a chat and choosing timber for a client. It’s a dream come true for artist/ craftsman and client and leads to lifelong friendships.

Introducing resins and stone, glass and steel to furniture and sculpture has raised the bar and, combined with some incredible timber I’ve had in storage for 20 years, is coming to make some unique designs surface.

The term “Wabi Subi” was mentioned to me a few years back and I finally found something that fairly hits the nail on the head. The “Divine Aesthetic” that is the beauty of natural form and shape, imperfect, impermanent and incomplete in nature, the acceptance of transience and imperfection, asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, intimacy and the appreciation of natural form to furniture and sculpture has raised the bar and, combined with some incredible timber I’ve had in storage for 20 years, is coming to make some unique designs surface.
