Cygnia Cove Project

Commercial designs

Description

Cygnia Cove has become a unique example of the rehabilitation and management of more than 5ha of degraded riverine and wetland environments.

When the Trustees of the Christian Brothers in WA approached PLAN E to revitalize Waterford’s degraded, unused wetlands, the aim was to create a sustainable eco-system for the local fauna and aesthetically pleasing, functional space the whole community could enjoy.

Located on the Corner of Manning Road and Centenary Drive in an urban setting, the award-winning project has been praised for its specially designed swan breeding wetland.

A number of innovative and best practise management techniques were instigated for works on the site with construction contracts specifically written to suit these works. The engagement of a number of specialised consultants and contractors, together with the pre-ordering of thousands of plants, ensured best industry knowledge and products were used.

Additionally, selection of materials and salvaging of some site elements was carefully considered to ensure longevity, sustainability and appropriateness to all facets of the design and implementation. The development of the landscape management plans for the existing wetland, foreshore and constructed wetland was integral as was and the coordination and management of works on site.
