Description

As a ceramic artist, Jolene’s work is explorative and diverse. Using natural clay slips, underglaze and glazes in a variety of ways, many interesting collections emerge from season to season.

Coming from over a decade of working as a building designer, the urge to incorporate both functionality and beautiful aesthetic has continued. Much of Jolene’s work remains functional, with the idea that beautiful, textural pieces can enhance everyday moments.

As her work has become more intricate, the desire to consider bigger formats has led to some exploration in the non-functional, ceramic art sector, providing an interesting way to extend and elaborate many of her ideas. Much of Jolene's work uses the sgraffito method, though she is often testing boundaries of what is possible with this technique, and enjoys teaching the method to students year round.

Heavily influenced by the natural world, Jolene’s work aims to capture elements of both the beauty and power in our natural surroundings. Collections include elegant Serveware and Tableware, beautiful Teapots, an interesting collection of special cups and mugs, plus a limited collection of Ceramic Wall Art. Usually Trading as 'River Ceramics' a comprehensive overview of Jolene's work and process videos can best seen on Instagram.
