Description

Maya Jade is an illustration and ceramic artist that uses both mediums to create vibrant, curious and naive pieces that evoke a sense of childish wonder.

Her art prints begin as sketches and paintings, then digitally adapted and printed in Busselton. They include a lot of female forms, colour clashing combinations and the French language. Maya has always had a draw to foreign languages and cultures, feeling as though they evoke a sense of mystery as well as a reminder of the intricacies of our world.

Her ceramic endeavours began later in March 2021. With a long obsession with collecting ceramics she wanted to put her own unique twist on all types of functional pieces. Maya loves hand-building her pieces because of the slow process and organic, never-the-same, finish. Each piece stands alone in its form and design and Maya chooses to embrace the medium by allowing the clay and her hands to dance a creative waltz. Clay has transformed her life and art by allowing her to let go of perfection and embrace the difference of each piece. This sense of freedom has certainly bled into her illustration work. She uses the glaze of her ceramic pieces to play with colour, pattern and design with that inner child always in mind.
