Description

Nattai National Park is a protected wilderness area in eastern Australia, known for its stunning sandstone cliffs and dry sclerophyll forest.

Spanning over 48,984 hectares, it is considered one of the wildest and most remote parks in the region. The park offers breathtaking landscapes, secluded bushwalks, and opportunities for animal watching. It is home to various species, including kangaroos, possums, koalas, echidnas, and eagles.

The park has a rich history, with limited European impact. Settlers arrived in the lower Nattai and Burragorang Valleys in 1827, but early conservationists like Myles Dunphy and Herb Gallop explored the area and fought for its preservation. Plans to log the area were opposed, and in 1932, Dunphy proposed a Greater Blue Mountains National Park that included what is now Nattai National Park. It wasn't until 1991 that permanent protection and national park status were achieved.

Access to the park is available via Wattle Ridge Fire Road, near Hill Top. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is not required, and there is a small car park at the park's edge. Visitors must sign in and out for safety purposes. Another access point is through Wombeyan Caves Road.

Nature enthusiasts will find plenty of activities to enjoy in Nattai National Park. The park's natural landscapes are perfect for bushwalking, wildlife watching, nature photography, and study. There are several trails offering scenic views of the valley and cliffs. The park's rivers provide opportunities for swimming and fishing, with various fish species, including Australian Bass. Camping is allowed, but visitors must bring their own supplies.
