Welcome to Nowergup
The suburb is a sparsely populated agricultural area, bounded by Romeo and Karoborup Road to the north, the proposed Mitchell Freeway to the west, Pinjar Road to the east and Hester Avenue and Wattle Avenue to the south.
Several plant nurseries, the Ocean View Tavern and the Nowergup Lake wetland and fauna sanctuary are situated along Wanneroo Road. The western strip between Wanneroo Road and the proposed Mitchell Freeway is approximately the northern half of the Neerabup National Park.
The area also contains most of the Pinjar Pine Plantation within Neerabup National Park, numerous sand and limestone quarries and a Water Corporation biosolids facility. Wanneroo Raceway, WA's premier motorsport facility, is located just beyond Nowergup's southern border in Neerabup.

Nowergup is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s North East Rural & Industrial Place Management Area.
Given the area is mostly rural and industrial, only 200 people were recorded as living in Nowergup when the 2011 census was carried out for this specific area. Just over 1,000 people now live in the combined Carabooda, Neerabup, Nowergup and Pinjar suburbs, which are expected to grow to 5,000 people over the next 20 years).
Origin of name and history
The suburb of Nowergup takes its name from Lake Nowergup and in the Noongar language possibly means ‘place of sweet water’. Nowergup was approved as a suburb name in 1982.
Carabooda Lake, an excellent fishing location can also be found in the area. The lakes name was first recorded by Surveyor General J.S. Roe in 1841.
Neerabup National Park is a 12 km strip of bushland that provides a corridor for the movement of animals along the coastal plain and marks an ancient Aboriginal migration route. Numerous native animals can be found in the reserve including Western Grey kangaroos, endangered Carnaby Cockatoos and echidnas. Jarrah and tuart trees, banksia and hakea woodlands, kangaroo paws and native wisteria provide for a diverse plant life.
