The Remarkables Ski Area is a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Located just a 45-minute drive from central Queenstown, this ski area offers big mountain terrain with epic views over the Wakatipu basin. The Remarkables is a scenic 24km drive away from downtown Queenstown, and the mountain offers several car parking areas to choose from, including a top car park that is within walking distance of the lifts.
The ski area has three mountain bowls covering 220 ha (540 acres) with eight lifts (4 chairlifts, 4 magic carpets). Terrain is rated as 30% beginners, 40% intermediate and 30% advanced. Average annual snowfall is 3.67 meters. In 2007, automated snowmaking was installed, and a new snow groomer has also been acquired. There's also a snow tubing park, and in 2008, a terrain park was developed. For beginners, The Remarkables offers Intro to Snow and First Timer Packages that are designed to get you started in a fun and safe package that includes lessons, lift passes, and equipment rental. One and three-day options are available. The mountain also has a massive learner’s area.
For seasoned skiers and snowboarders, The Remarkables offers big mountain terrain with sun-soaked bowls, world-renowned chutes, and seven parks, including the legendary Burton Stash – one of only six worldwide, the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. The ski area is open to everyone, and you don't need skis or a snowboard to have a good time up here. The Remarkables is part of NZSki, which incorporates Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt. In the 2014 winter season, a new lodge base was opened.
